A Snowy “Last Minute” Engagement Session That Felt Meant to Be

Some sessions are planned weeks in advance. And some come together “last minute” — but feel like they were always meant to happen.

This snowy engagement session was the kind that reminds me exactly why I do what I do.

A Date & Location That Meant Something

The location wasn’t random. It was close to the area where they had their very first date. The kind of spot that holds the quiet beginnings of something big.

And the session date?

Exactly two months to the day since the question was asked.

If that doesn’t feel poetic, I don’t know what does.

There’s something powerful about choosing places and dates that matter. It adds a layer you can’t pose or recreate. It just exists — and you can feel it in the images.

“We’re Not Photogenic…” (Sure 😉)

Before we started, they told me this was their very first professional photoshoot. They warned me they might be awkward. That they weren’t photogenic.

I hear this all the time.

And almost every single time? It’s complete nonsense.

Awkward isn’t a personality trait. It’s just nerves. And nerves melt quickly when you’re allowed to move, laugh, and just be together.

Within minutes, they forgot about the camera. They leaned in. They laughed. They trusted the process. And that’s when the magic started.

A Vision Board & An Internal Happy Dance

At the start of the session, they pulled out their vision board again. They had saved images,

tones, movement, and feeling — and then casually mentioned they knew one of my 2025 brides and absolutely adored her wedding and engagement photos.

Cue my internal happy dance.

There is no bigger compliment than someone loving your work enough to picture themselves in it.

Trust like that? I don’t take it lightly.

Snow Falling, Music Playing, Dancing in the Middle of It All

As if on cue, the snow started falling.

Not the heavy, blinding kind — but soft, steady flakes that catch in hair and eyelashes. The kind photographers secretly hope for but can’t control.

We walked.

We twirled.

We laughed.

And yes… we danced in the snow.

There’s something wildly romantic about not taking yourself too seriously in moments like that. Cold cheeks, big smiles, and snow collecting on coats while you hold onto each other.

They said they would be awkward.

They weren’t.

They said they weren’t photogenic.

They were glowing.

What they actually were?

In love. Comfortable. Present.

And that’s what photographs beautifully every single time.

Why I Love Engagement Sessions Like This

Engagement sessions aren’t about stiff poses or proving you’re “good in front of a camera.” They’re about freezing this in-between season — the anticipation, the excitement, the quiet “we’re really doing this” energy.

This snowy engagement session was spontaneous, meaningful, and full of joy. Thank you again loves for allowing me the honour of capturing this season of your lives - Engaged looks amazing on you both!

P.S.

If you’re planning your own engagement session and secretly thinking you’re awkward or not photogenic — I promise you, that’s not the truth. You just haven’t been given the space to feel comfortable yet.

And if that feels like you, we’ll likely work beautifully together.

I’d be honoured to tell your story — snowflakes, nerves, laughter, and all 🤍
