Their Best-Kept Secret & A Rainy-Day Adventure | Fairfield Historic Park Couples Session

When I launched my Summer Session Bucket List Sale, I had no idea what the very first session would bring.
This sweet couple was one of the first to jump on the sale, and I was so excited when they reached out. They aren't just clients to me either. One is a friend from high school, and the other is a good friend of my brother-in-law. Those existing connections always make sessions feel a little extra special.
The original plan was simple: an adventure session at Big Sandy Bay on Wolfe Island. We were going to wander through the sand dunes, enjoy the shoreline of Lake Ontario, and chase that beautiful golden summer light that makes photographers weak in the knees.
Then the weather had other plans.
When session day arrived, it felt like Mother Nature decided to cram five days worth of rain into twenty-four hours.

Like many clients would, we chatted back and forth about postponing. The forecast wasn't exactly encouraging. But with schedules being what they are, they really wanted the session to happen.
So we pivoted.
Instead of golden sunlight dancing across the sand, we embraced a completely different bucket list session idea. Think less beach sunset and more rainy romance. The kind of romance straight out of The Notebook where nobody cares that they're soaked because they're too busy enjoying the moment.
Fairfield Historic Park was the perfect setting for the new direction.
The dark skies, historic building with the covered porch, rocky shoreline, and misty views across Lake Ontario created exactly the mood we were looking for.
A little over an hour before the session, I had been asked if an outfit change would be okay.
Of course it would.
At the time, I didn't think much of it. After all, wet jeans aren't nearly as comfortable as wet linen.
When session time arrived, we met in the parking lot and made our way through the rain toward our first location. I shared my game plan for the evening, and they mentioned they had brought a few props they hoped we could include in some photos.

As someone who loves incorporating meaningful personal items into sessions, I immediately said yes.
Then they opened the bag.
Inside were hats that read "Mom" and "Dad" along with an ultrasound photo.
(At this point I would like to formally apologize to anyone who may have witnessed my reaction.)
The squeal.
The little dance.
The complete inability to remain professional for approximately thirty seconds.
Thankfully, we were the only people around.
Suddenly all of the little details started making sense.
Being one of the first to book the Bucket List Sale.
The determination to make the session happen despite the weather.
The outfit change.
This wasn't just a rainy-day couples session.
This was an announcement!
One of the greatest honours of being a photographer is being trusted with moments like these.

Moments where two people are preparing to share life-changing news with the people they love.
Moments that will be looked back on years from now when tiny feet are running through hallways and family photos fill the walls.
We spent the evening tucked under the historic porch, wandering the shoreline, playing in the rain, splashing through the waters of Lake Ontario, and laughing more times than I could count.
Somewhere between the rain drops and the happy tears, we created my favourite rainy-day images to date.
The session was proof of something I often tell my clients:
Not every session needs to be postponed because of rain.
Sometimes the weather gives us something even better.
The rain slowed us down.
It created mood, movement, connection, and a story that simply wouldn't have existed on a perfect sunny day.
And honestly?
I wouldn't change a single thing.
To this sweet growing family, thank you for trusting me with your secret, your excitement, and your memories.
Your rainy-day adventure is one I won't soon forget.
xoxo
Cass
