A Love Story Close to Home | Photographing My Cousin’s Engagement

There are sessions that are beautiful.
There are sessions that are joyful.
And then there are sessions that quietly reach in and hold your heart a little tighter.
Getting to photograph my cousin’s engagement was one of those moments.

I’ve documented so many love stories over the years — proposals, engagements, weddings, anniversaries — but when it’s someone you’ve watched grow up… someone whose childhood laughter you remember, whose milestones you’ve celebrated at family gatherings… it feels different.
It feels layered.
It feels personal.
It feels like time standing still for just a second.
Watching them step into this new chapter of their life — confident, in love, and glowing in that unmistakable engaged kind of way — was emotional in the best way.
And being trusted to preserve that season through my lens?
That’s something I’ll never take lightly.
As a photographer, I’m always paying attention to the in-between.
The quiet squeeze of a hand.
The nervous little laugh before a kiss. The way they look at each other when they think no one is watching.
But as family… I felt it too.
I saw the years that led to this moment. I saw the growth. I saw the joy that only comes when you know someone has found their person. It reminded me how special it is to witness love from both sides — standing there as someone who shares their history, and also as someone documenting their future.

There’s a tenderness that comes with photographing people you love. You’re not just capturing a season — you’re preserving a piece of your own story too.
This engagement session wasn’t just another date on the calendar.
It was a reminder of why I started doing this in the first place.
To hold onto moments.
To honour change.
To freeze time, even just a little.
Some sessions fade gently into the archive.
This one will stay with me for a very long time. 🤍
I love you both so very much thank you again for allowing me the honour of capturing this Chapter of your love story!
xoxo
