A Winter Surprise: An In-Home & Outdoor Twin Maternity Session

Some sessions carry an extra layer of magic — and this one? It came wrapped in the sweetest surprise.

First-time parents. And not just one baby on the way… but twins.

There is something so tender about photographing a couple stepping into parenthood for the very first time. Add in the joyful shock of “there’s two,” and the whole atmosphere shifts. There’s awe. There’s nervous laughter. There’s that quiet look between them that says, we’re really doing this.

Part One: Home, Where It All Begins

We began their maternity session at home — which is always an option I encourage when it feels meaningful. Home is where the everyday magic lives. And for these two, home wouldn’t be complete without their fur babies.

Their dogs aren’t just pets — they’re family. Including them wasn’t a checklist item; it was essential. The cuddles, the paw prints on jeans, the way they leaned into mom-to-be as if they already knew change was coming — it added so much heart to this session.

Midway through, mama did a small outfit change… and the dress?

Absolute perfection. Soft, flattering, and flowing in a way that made her glow even more than she already was. Watching her step into that moment — holding her growing bump, knowing there are two little lives inside — it was powerful and beautiful all at once.

We laughed.

We paused.

We soaked it in.

Part Two: Adventure Awaits

For the second half, she changed back into her jeans and we headed outdoors — because these two have a love for adventure and travel that runs deep. It only felt right to reflect that part of their story too.

Choosing Parrott’s Bay was more than just picking a pretty location. The woodland trails were a quiet nod to their nursery theme — soft, natural, and rooted in adventure.

Now, let me paint the real picture: snow and ice covered the trails, and none of us were walking gracefully. At all. There were wobbly steps, arms flailing, and at least a few moments where we collectively questioned our choices.

But that’s the thing about winter sessions — they feel alive. The crunch of snow under boots. The crisp air. The way they instinctively lean into each other for warmth. It creates connection you can’t pose.

And through the slipping and laughing and steadying one another, I saw it clearly — this is how they’ll parent.

Together.

Holding each other up.

Finding joy in the chaos.

The In-Between Moments

Some of my favourite frames from this session weren’t the perfectly composed ones.

They were the in-between laughs. The dog nudging into the frame.

The shared glance that said, “Can you believe this is happening?”

Twins.

Two heartbeats.

Two tiny humans.

One very full, very beautiful next chapter.

Watching first-time parents step into this season is always an honour. But witnessing them do it with so much humour, love, and openness? That’s the real gift.

To these two — your adventure is just beginning. And if this session is any indication, your twins are coming into a home filled with laughter, loyalty, and a whole lot of love (fur babies included). 🤍
