Watching Their Story Unfold

There’s something incredibly special about getting to photograph a family through so many seasons of their story. Not just for one milestone, but over and over again as life quietly unfolds in front of the camera.

This sweet little cake smash session felt especially emotional to edit because it truly feels like just yesterday we were planning an early spring maternity session together. The air still had that coolness that lingers after winter, and there was so much excitement surrounding the little life they were waiting to meet.

Since then, I’ve been trusted with moments that go far beyond simply taking photos. I was invited into pieces of their journey that were tender, emotional, and deeply meaningful — even getting to be a very small part of their hospital care journey as they navigated those first days with their little one.

Once everyone was settled back at home, I was welcomed in again to capture those newborn moments — the tiny details, the sleepy stretches, the overwhelming love that fills a home when a baby arrives. Then came holiday memories, watching traditions begin and seeing this family settle into their new rhythm together.

And suddenly… somehow… we arrived at a first birthday session. As I sat editing and sending their final gallery, I caught myself quietly thinking, where did the time go?

One minute you’re photographing a growing bump and dreaming with parents about who their baby will become, and the next you’re wiping frosting-covered smiles off your lens while a one-year-old dives face first into cake.

Getting invited back into people’s lives over and over again means more than I could ever properly put into words. Watching families grow from behind my camera is such a special honour.

These sessions become so much more than photographs — they become pieces of a story I’ve been trusted to witness from the very beginning.

And honestly, that trust never becomes something I take lightly. 🤍
