117 Photos Later, Mama Still Asked “Did You Get Any Good Ones?”

There is something so special about getting to welcome returning clients back in front of my camera — especially when they arrive with a brand new little addition to love on.

Before their session, mama filled out her questionnaire and instantly I knew this session was going to be one of those ones that sticks with me for a long time. She shared that she wanted moments with her girls captured in a way that felt playful, cozy, candid and connection-focused (which honestly are my favourite kinds of sessions). She also mentioned feeling excited but a little nervous because her older daughter sometimes has some big feelings. Which, if we are being honest… what little friend doesn’t at times? Those feelings are beautiful too. They are part of childhood. Part of the story.

Mama also shared that she hoped for moments with each of her girls individually, and we made sure to leave space for that throughout the session.

When session day arrived, mama absolutely nailed the outfit suggestions. She thrifted neutral outfits for everyone just in case the washable paint decided not to be quite as washable as promised — honestly, a genius move. Everything felt soft, timeless and perfectly them.

Once everyone was settled in, the creativity started flowing.

There were messy little hands, paint-covered fingers, belly laughs, sweet cuddles, spontaneous giggles and eventually… a tiny paint fight. The kind of chaos that somehow feels both beautifully wild and deeply meaningful all at once.

It wasn’t about perfection.

It was about presence.

Part way through the session, mama looked over at me and asked, “Do you think you got any good ones?”

I remember smiling and replying,

“They’re all good.”

And I truly meant it.

Because what they created together that day was so much bigger than just photos. They were making memories while capturing them at the same time.

At the end of the session, they packed up their masterpiece along with all of the creative tools to take home so they could continue painting and creating together long after our time together ended.

Then came editing day.

As I worked through their gallery, it honestly felt magical. Every image pulled me right back into that room. I could hear the laughter again. I could feel the love between them. I could relive the joy and connection from that day all over again.

That is when I realized there was absolutely no way this gallery was staying anywhere near the quoted minimum of 25 finalized images.

In the end, I delivered 117 finalized images.

One hundred and seventeen little pieces of their story.

One hundred and seventeen reminders of connection, creativity and motherhood.

One hundred and seventeen moments turned into memories.

Sessions like this are exactly why Paint With Me sessions will always have a place here at Frontenac Photography. They are messy, emotional, playful, imperfect and full of heart — just like motherhood itself.

And honestly?

I cannot wait to host them again. 🤍

xoxo

Cass
