Waiting, Holding, Becoming: A Session For A Season That Did Not Come Easily

Some stories don’t begin when the camera comes out.

They begin years before — in quiet hope, in waiting, in wondering if this chapter will ever arrive.

This one is exactly that.

For my sister-in-law, this season didn’t come easily. It was a long road… one filled with patience, strength, and more resilience than most people ever see on the surface. And for our whole family, there was this shared, steady hope — that one day, she would get to experience this.

So when the news finally came…

it didn’t just feel exciting.

It felt sacred.

We celebrated. We held it gently. We let it sink in slowly — the kind of joy that almost doesn’t feel real at first.

From the moment she told me, we talked about this session over and over again.

The feeling of it.

The softness.

The way we wanted it to reflect not just how it looked — but everything it took to get here.

We picked a date… and then, like any photographer knows, we watched the weather like it held all the answers.

And somehow, it gave us exactly what we needed.

There was still snow resting on the ground from earlier in the week — a quiet reminder of the season we were just coming out of. But the air had shifted. It was warm. Gentle. Spring was beginning to show itself.

It felt symbolic in a way you cannot plan!

We met at Lemoine Point, and from the moment she stepped into that space — she was the focus. Soft. Strong. Completely herself.

She wore a blue dress — and we laughed about it a little.

Was it a hint at what’s to come?

Or just a colour that she wears so effortlessly?

Some things don’t need answers yet.

My son came along too, which made the whole session feel even more like what it truly was — a family moment, not just a photoshoot.

Behind the scenes, he kept things light in the best way. Little comments. Silly moments. The kind of energy that pulls out the most genuine smiles without trying.

And that’s the thing about sessions like this —they’re not about perfect posing or getting everything “just right.”

They’re about what unfolds in between.

The laughter.

The pauses.

The way a hand rests without thinking.

There were moments I had to pause behind the camera.

Not because anything was wrong —

but because I could feel it.

The weight of what this meant.

The journey behind it.

The love surrounding it.

It’s not often I get emotional during a session to the point to I freeze from time to time — but this one stayed with me in a different way.

This wasn’t just about documenting a pregnancy.

It was about honouring everything it took to get here.

The waiting.

The hoping.

The becoming.

And now… we wait again.

But this time, it feels different!

Full.

Certain.

And so close!

I truly cannot wait to meet this little one — already so deeply loved, long before their arrival!

xoxo

P.S.

If you’re in a season of waiting, of growing, of becoming — I see you. And when the moment comes, I would be honoured to hold that story for you, too.
